Easiest Way to Grow an Avocado Plant!

I keep hearing how difficult it is to germinate an avocado stone, to grow a plant. Can it really be that difficult? My son works part-time in a restaurant and that gives me a plentiful supply of avocado stones (no one in my family likes avocado, so it's nothing we'd ever buy). I would really like one of these!

Don't use a stone with cut marks they said! The ones my son brought home had cut marks, so I decided to give this a try, it can't be that hard!

As always, Google is my best friend! By all accounts the damp kitchen towel is the best method. It sounds simple, put the stone in a damp piece of kitchen towel, put in Ziploc bag and put in a cool dark place. Check every 3-4 days!

This is what we started with!

I put an avocado stone in damp paper towel and put it in a kitchen cupboard that we don't open very often.

After 3 weeks I have this:

Once the stalk started growing, I put it in soil and three months later it has leaves. I think I should have put it in soil sooner because the stalk is very long!

I germinated another two using the same process (3 out of 3 success!). I planted in dirt a couple of weeks ago as soon as the root appeared. They now look like this:

Germinating avocado stones using this method is easy, give it a go and let me know how you get on!
I'd love to see photos of your babies 😍
